Personal Update
I’m working on a children’s picture book
Season Break: K.C. this week (not Anna Okkes) thanks for reading Midnight Snack each week. I hope you feel the natural first season conclusion from the last two articles. Both got way more reads than normal! I’ll post links below.
Gone Artists Novel: For the future, I plan to keep it going with a new story arch, new flavors, and new dangers, but i’m taking the rest of July off to finish out another writing project(see below)
Children’s Book In other news, Ive spent the past year putting together a children’s picture book. I wanted to share some behind-the-scenes bits of the creative process and ask if any of you have connections in the industry. Working with David Mason on the art has been so fun! He’s got great vision and instincts. Check out his other work(link blow)
This project came to me when I was canning beer at Combustion and by the end of the night the first draft was on paper. But it takes months to sand rough edges, find the voice, and work with—in my case—a couple great artists.
Heres some really rough early sketches:
The story is about a dog who just wants to go on a walk, but there are some stipulations.
But now, David and I have a submission package with a polished manuscript, dummy sketches, and a couple really tight finished panels.
It’s been really rewarding and fun.

Gone Artists has been buzzing in my head for the better part of two years. Originally, I wanted to write a series of novellas about a ghost girl and a savvy con artist. The story got bigger. Now, three novellas are being smoothed into one complete novel. This story is honestly smarter than I am and I really hope I can pull it off. That being said, I’m spending the rest of July to hammer it out.
Wish me luck.
If you are looking for animators, look up David Mason.
If you have and leads for me to follow, let me know.
K.C.
